A Farm With Deep Roots
Weber’s story starts in 1908, when the family began working the land just outside Baltimore. Back then, produce made its way into the city by horse and wagon, sold door-to-door as Baltimore grew out toward the farm. Over the decades, the operation shifted from mobile market to on-site farm store, but the family has stayed at the center of it the entire time.
Today, four generations of Webers have shaped the business, with a fifth generation now running it. Jo-Ann and Steve Weber have led the farm market and cider mill since 1971, and their son Jake Weber Jr. is carrying the tradition forward. That kind of continuity is rare in food, and it’s a big part of what gives Weber’s its character.
The Oldest Cider Mill Still Running in Maryland
The cider mill itself is something worth talking about. Weber’s still presses fresh-picked apples in the same Runkle’s Company Cider Mill that Earl Weber bought from a New Jersey farmer in 1947. It’s the oldest cider mill in continuous use in the state of Maryland. When you buy a jug of Weber’s cider, you’re tasting apples that were pressed on equipment that’s been part of the family for more than three quarters of a century.
