We conclude our series in the heart of the world’s pretzel country looking specifically at Plum Creek Soft Pretzels. This journey, intertwining tradition with innovation, started at Plum Creek Farm Market & Creamery and blossomed into a story of culinary delight and community bonding.
A Humble Beginning:
Our pretzel journey began in 2017 with just a few simple ingredients and a big dream. Initially served in our modest facility, the pretzels quickly became a local sensation.
As our pretzels gained popularity, we saw an opportunity to grow. Driven by demand, we expanded our operations. This growth wasn’t just physical; it was a journey of refining our flavors and techniques. We introduced new pretzel varieties in our Creamery, each receiving an enthusiastic welcome from our customers.
Meeting the Home Demand:
Our customers’ desire to enjoy our soft pretzels at home led us down a path of innovation. We experimented with various baking and freezing techniques to preserve the pretzels’ freshness and flavor. After many trials, we perfected a method that allowed us to offer frozen soft pretzels, extending the reach of our handcrafted delicacies to homes everywhere.
2022 marked a significant milestone with the establishment of Plum Creek Foods. This expansion allowed us to start wholesale distribution, first with Walnut Creek Foods and then to a broader market consisting of more than 500 stores and restaurants. As we scaled up, the challenge was to maintain the artisanal quality that our pretzels were known for. We met this challenge by innovating and adapting, and sometimes even taking a misstep or two as we learned how to grow without losing focus on the quality of our product.
Ken Nolt, president of Plum Creek Foods, is grateful for the challenge and opportunity to help introduce our soft pretzels beyond our Farm Market and Creamery.
Ken comments, “It’s been exciting to see our soft pretzels grow from a must have on a visit to the Creamery to a delectable treat that can be enjoyed anytime at home.” Ken also shared a couple of thoughts regarding upcoming opportunities, “Part of growing into a new market is going to food shows. It’s always enjoyable to introduce buyers to Plum Creek through a delicious hot soft pretzel. As they bring them into their stores it allows us to share the blessing that Plum Creek has been to us to customers that may never visit Plum Creek.”
